Water Reservoir:

All types of hydroponic system needs water reservoir. It stores nutrients which are most important to plant to grow. Every plant needs it from seeding to harvesting. Every type of hydroponic has different kind of reservoir.

Floating or water culture: Name its self is telling about reservoir. It allows plant to float and dangle its roots in nutrient solutions. It lets plant suck up nutrient from reservoir.

Wick: This is the basic system of reservoir which is fixed under the plants. The plants are also fixed in soil and in large thick “wicks” like cotton rope, these are place under nutrient solution and are up into the growing medium. It will let nutrient flow upward and moisturize growing medium.

Drip or Top feed: Drip works different than “floating or water culture” and “wick”. It emits the nutrients and feed the plants. If the nutrient solution is excessive then remaining will to at reservoir through drainage holes.

Ebb and Flow: It is the most common and professional method where the plants are in pot and pot is in tray and reservoir is beneath of it. It floods the nutrient solutions up to 6 inches, which process happens four times in a day. When tray the filled because of flooding than solutions goes back to reservoir. Overflow pipe system should be installed as backup because it floods too much.

N.F.T (nutrient film technique):It is little similar to “Ebb and Flow” system. Where plants are on the tray and that tray is on reservoir. The difference is that the nutrient solution is continually pumped to tray through a thin film and solution goes back to reservoir from other side.

 

Spray Nozzle:

The spray nozzle’s function is to spray the liquid and atomize it than distribute it into different patterns. Using direct hydraulic atomization or utilizing a second fluid, like compressing air to add energy to spray fluid.

Nutrient solution:

          Nutrient solutions are most important part of hydroponics system. It is essential to the plant for growing. In hydroponic systems, nutrient is dissolved in water and mostly in ionic and inorganic form. The cations in nutrient solution are calcium, potassium, magnesium but major nutrient anions in nutrient solutions are dihydrogen phosphate, nitrate and sulfate.

Growing Media:

There are many types of growing media. The most common media in world is coconut coir, sawdust, sand but other than these peat, vermiculite or combination of both. Growing row crops like cucumber, tomato, pepper and the two most popular growing media are rockwool and perlite. Both of these media can be used in both open and closed system. Gravel isn’t important as an aggregate in both systems. Both popular media doesn’t have that much weight, they can easily be handled and easier to steam sterilize.

 

Pump

          There are two types of pump, one is air pump and second is water pump. Air pump provides oxygen to plants where water pump provide nutrient solutions which is dissolved in water to plants.

Water pump has main role as other parts of hydroponic system. I should be able to work properly otherwise if anything happens with pumps than that time would be sudden death of plant. These pump take the nutrient solutions from reservoir to grow tray where pants would complete their needs and then remaining nutrient solutions will be back from hole of tube to reservoir where same nutrient solution can be used for future.

Every plant also needs oxygen and air pumps are for it. Air will be provided by air pumps where plant could take oxygen. If nutrient supply doesn’t hold enough dissolved oxygen than your plants are going to suffer aerating the root zone radically improves water absorption and nutrient, increasing ion cell growth. This process can stop water from becoming like a body of water or the atmosphere of confined space having no current or flow and often having an unpleasant smell as a consequence, which could lead to health problems such as dread phythium (root rot).

Grow tray:

Grow tray itself says the meaning of equipment. Grow tray holds the plants float and dangle their roots into nutrient solutions. A plant can easily get what is needed. Every grow tray has different shape depend upon what kind of hydroponic system is being used.

Drip lines and manifold

Drip lines and manifold are only part of drip system. The drip lines which are connected to pump, when nutrients pump send nutrients solution, it goes through drip manifold and then drip lines. Drips lines are connected with drip manifold which has more than one hole in it. After drip lines get the nutrient solutions, it through the solution on grow tray.
